Scott Miller

Board President
Scott is Director of the Virts-Miller Family Foundation, and owner and vintner of Selma Estate Wines, based in Napa Valley. He is a co-founder of Opportunity Scholars, President and Chairman of the Loudoun Education Foundation, President and Chairman of the children’s musical therapy foundation A Place To Be, is a Trustee of Shenandoah University, INOVA Hospital Foundation Trustee, and is an Advisor to the Loudoun Public School System’s Academy of Engineering and Technology. Scott earned his master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Scott and his wife, Sharon Virts own the historic Selma Mansion in Leesburg and are currently renovating the estate.

Lorna Martinez Magill

Board Secretary
Lorna has over 25 years of experience in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. She has served as a Chief Financial Officer for organizations in a variety of industries. She believes in giving back to her community and lends her expertise as a member of numerous advisory boards and coalitions. She is passionate about education and presents financial related training to entrepreneurs, non-profits and individuals. She is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Certified Global Management Accountant and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of New Mexico as well as a certificate in Non-Profit Management. She attended the high-performance Business Program at Dartmouth Universities, Tuck School of Business. Lorna is a first-generation college graduate and is passionate about helping youth obtain a higher education. In her spare time, Lorna enjoys spending time with her husband, three grown sons and her extended family and friends.
Bernard Mustafa
Board Treasurer

Bernard is the Co-Founder and CEO of BE FIT Technologies which is a family business focusing on wellness and fitness. He was the managing partner of PVBS since 2003 and was recognized as the premier and leading Microsoft ERP partner for government contractors. Bernard has served in numerous local and national organizations including past chair of Community Foundation of Northern Virginia and honorary trustee of the Loudoun Education Foundation. In 2015, Bernard was appointed by Governor Terry McAuliffe to the Board of the Center for Innovative Technology. Bernard holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Baltimore and an MBA Morgan State University. Bernard served in the United States Army and is a Vietnam Veteran and is a member of All Souls Church where he is a treasurer and Board of Trustees Member. He resides in Broadlands with his wife, Daphne and they have five children.

Fred Thompson

Fred is the business partner and Chief Administrative Officer at Thompson Hospitality. He received a B.A. degree in Classical Studies from Hampden Sydney College and an M.A degree in Public Administration from University of Virginia. Fred is the 2022 Chair of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, sits on the board of the Global Good Fund Foundation, and is part of the Deacon Ministry at the Vienna First Baptist Church. He resides in Ashburn and has one son, Fred Thompson III (Trey) who is a student at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Julie Hart Overbaugh

Julie is the Chief Operating Officer for Opportunity Scholars. She is a lifelong resident of the Shenandoah Valley and graduated from Lord Fairfax Community College. Julie has over 24 years of extensive experience for two national non-profit organizations overseeing education, mission, outreach, development and fundraising programs. She most recently worked as the Business Administrator at Open Door Church and was their Youth and Preschool Program Director. Julie served as board president for Friday’s Child Adoption Agency and was a board member and treasurer at the American Cancer Society. She resides in Winchester with her husband, Tony and their three children.

Rod Williams

Rod has over 28 years experience in the leadership and healthcare setting and brings a wealth of knowledge in community engagement, financial and strategic planning, and operational management. Rod earned a B.A. degree in Business Management from Clark College and his Master’s of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. He serves as a Fellow on the Advisory Board for the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the National Association of Healthcare Executives and Rotary Club.

J. Knox Singleton

After 35 years working as the CEO of Inova Health System, Knox technically “retired” but
continues to serve people in a variety of ways. He was named CEO of the year by both Virginia Business and the Washington Business Journal. In addition to co-founding and serving as the CEO of Opportunity Scholars, he is also Board Chair of Healthcare Realty Trust, a co-founder and board member for The Global Good Fund, Board Chair for the Winchester Rescue Mission, and holds director and board officer positions for many other organizations. He serves as Executive in Residence for Healthcare Management in the Shenandoah University School of Business. Knox earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina and a master’s degree from Duke University. He resides in Winchester, Va., with his wife. Together, they have seven children.

Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ph.D.
Tracy is the President at Shenandoah University leading the institution of over 4,000 students, 900 faculty and staff throughout their campuses. She received her undergraduate degree in politics from Princeton University and her master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University in Latin American studies and political science. Tracy serves on the board of directors for Shenandoah Telecommunications, Inc., Blue Ridge District BB&T Bank, Loudoun Education Foundation, and is the President of the ODAC conference. She lives in Winchester with her husband and three children.

Nick Clemente

As the Membership Director for the Virginia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Nick is responsible for growing the association by recruiting new members, helping current members with issues ranging from developing a safety program, to understanding changing regulations and legislative issues and helping member companies grow their business through networking. Nick was born and raised in Northern Virginia. As a child, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, but through perseverance and determination, earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Wittenberg University and his master’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship from George Mason University. Nick’s interest in politics led him to run campaigns in Northern Virginia. He is actively involved in his community, serving on the Leesburg Planning Commission and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. He also volunteers with the Potomac Valley Officiating Association working youth basketball and softball games.

Sonny Swann

Sonny Swann is President of Climatic Heating and Cooling, Inc., where he takes pride in managing Climatic’s daily operations and system design. He began working at Climatic in 2001 after spending five years as an IT consultant. He attended the University of Maryland where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. While attending University of Maryland, Sonny served in the United States Marine Corps. Sonny and his wife, Jackie, have three sons. Every year, Sonny attends numerous classes and seminars to keep up with the latest innovations in home comfort and systems engineering. Sonny also serves as the President of the Board of Morven Park, a member of the Board of Arc of Loudoun and is on the Advisory Board of Bank of Charles Town.

Connor Marsden
Connor Marsden is EVP, North America Service Cloud at Salesforce. Prior to this, Connor worked as Senior Director of National Dynamic Sales at Microsoft. Connor earned his Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Richmond, Robins School of Business. He resides in Leesburg with his wife, Diane, and their two children.
