Executive Director
Opportunity Scholars (OS), an educational nonprofit, is seeking an Executive Director. Our mission is to coach students who wish to pursue education, training and employment leading to high-demand, high-wage jobs. Our office is located in Winchester and surrounding counties. Primary duties include but are not limited to:
Leading the development of the organization's strategic direction; Creating and maintaining working relationships with students, families, high schools, colleges, businesses, donors and community partners to deliver the student services; Creating and implementing budgets and fiscal plans; Supervising staff with ongoing career development and engagement; Supporting the function of a board of directors in governing the mission and vision; Developing and executing donor giving programs and appeals with high level executives; Creating annual giving, capital and endowment campaigns.
Experience and skills:
Bachelor’s degree; Experience working with students and education partners; Experience in leading teams and managing budgets; Speaking and understanding Spanish is very useful in this role; Passion for helping young people and a desire to serve others in society.
Salary range is between $90k and $120k based upon experience and educational background. In lieu of medical benefits and non-reimbursable work expenses, a monthly flex allowance will be offered. Holidays and vacations are provided.
Community Program Coordinator, Northern Virginia

Primary duties include but are not limited to:
1. Cultivating and maintaining working relationships with high schools, colleges and community partners to deliver student services;
2. Assisting with operations and strategic planning;
3. Recruiting and engaging students through presentations, events & activities;
4. Maintaining relationships with students’ families and providing guidance to students;
5. Supervising and directing OS Life Success Coaches;
6. Building the OS identity and brand with donors, community agencies, students/families and the public;
7. Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree;
Fluency in Spanish;
Experience in education, human services, sales or social work;
Ability to self-direct and organize work;
Passion for helping young people to achieve career success and a desire to serve others.
Compensation based on experience. Salary range is between $52,500 and $58,000. In lieu of medical benefits and work-related travel expenses, a monthly flex allowance is provided.
Fundraising Associate (Part-time)
Opportunity Scholars (OS) works with high school students as they pursue career and technical programs, and community college and university pathways. OS assists families as they consider employment and training/education needs for their children. OS provides financial support to students during high school for dual enrollment, career and technical classes, and financing for students who choose to pursue post-secondary education in a local community college or university.
Strengthening current relationships and building new relationships with donors, this position will execute giving programs to include direct solicitations, prospect research, proposal development, special events, donor appeals, capital and endowment campaigns, and planned and deferred giving efforts.
Primary Duties: Research and Solicit major gift donors, and private family foundations (This position may provide assistance to staff responsible for writing grant proposals to corporations, public and some private foundations, but those areas of activity are not the primary responsibility of this position.) Implement fundraising projects / strategies and execute cultivation and stewardship events/programs Coordinate with board members, OS leaders and current OS donors to identify major gift prospects Develop and execute an annual donor solicitation and other annual giving program activities Provide assistance to OS staff engaged in writing of grant proposals. Ensure timely acknowledgment of gifts, ensure proper recording and accounting for any applicable gift restrictions. Record all relevant donor and gift information in the OS gift tracking system. Other duties as assigned. It is impossible to identify precisely each of the tasks and responsibilities that may be required related to the above work activities. Experience: Meaningful prior experience in Development, Sales or a related field. Experience in charitable fundraising with a record of accomplishment in major gifts is desired. Familiarity with fundraising software and record keeping is also desired.
Qualifications: A self starter and self directed individual is essential in this role. Strong initiative, volunteer management and organizational skills are required. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Google. Strong interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills required. The ability to recruit, retain and manage volunteers for various development functions is essential.
Compensation: Part-Time position. 12- 20 hours per week as mutually agreed. $18.50-$20.00/per hour based upon experience plus a bonus based on performance. A monthly benefit allowance will be paid to offset travel and benefits. Salary may increase based upon annual reviews of performance.
Location of Work: Our office is located in Winchester. Most of the duties will take place in -Winchester, Frederick, Clarke, Loudoun, and surrounding counties. Reliable transportation is required. A majority of this work can be performed on a flexible schedule and from home. Some time spent in the Opportunity Scholars office is preferred as mutually agreed.
